Intermediates overview
We produce alcohols, aldehydes and esters in our Oxo Intermediates segment for a wide variety of applications, including coatings, paints, lubricants and inks.

Our aldehydes are mainly used as building blocks for our Oxo Derivatives products, including amines, acids and polyols. Our aldehydes are also sold to our customers who produce polyols and transparent synthetic polymers for safety glass applications, or as a chain regulator for polyolefin production. Our main aldehyde products are n-Butyraldehyde and i-Butyraldehyde, which are our most important Oxo chemicals products on a volume basis, and propionaldehyde. |

Our alcohols are used in downstream production processes like surface coatings in the building materials or automotive sectors as well as for the production of ink products, fuel additives and detergent products. These products, as well as a number of other Oxo Intermediate products, are used in all coatings segments, including solvent-borne, water-borne and powders. The coatings market represents one of the largest end-markets for Oxo Intermediates. We are a leader in this segment and supply materials primarily for architectural, automotive, OEM and furniture coating applications. Our ink products are mainly used in the production of inks for packaging and publications. Production takes place in our Bay City, Marl and Oberhausen facilities. Our main alcohol products are n-Butanol, i-Butanol, 2-Ethylhexanol and n-Propanol. |

Our esters are sold to our customers for use in downstream production processes like coatings as well as for the production of pharmaceutical and ink products. Our main ester products are n-Butyl Acetate, i-Butyl Acetate and n-Propyl Acetate. |
